Palacio de Invierno + Diedro Rubio

Aguja bustamante – Climbing with guide Picos de Europa – Central Massif

The Palacio de Invierno route is located under the Bustamante needle near the spectacular area of the Fuente De cable car, its high quality rock, moderate difficulty and easy access make this activity a good day of climbing that will not leave us indifferent.

Undoubtedly and in my opinion one of the best routes of moderate difficulty of Picos de Europa, also if we combine it with the needle Bustamante is a very complete day of real enjoyment and quality of climbing on unbeatable rock.

Taking as a starting point the upper station of the Fuente De cable car, we will walk towards Veronica cabin by the comfortable track with hardly any slope, passing under the great walls of Peña Olvidada and enjoying a splendid view to the North where we can see the great wall of the Torre de los Horcados Rojos, the Pico Tesorero and the Lloroza lakes at our feet.

We will reach the point known as the Vueltona, here the path becomes narrower and we begin to gain altitude until we reach the junction of the Canalona and Peña Vieja. (Up to this point approximately 1 hour and about 350 meters of positive difference in altitude). Once at the junction we will be under the rock cliff that descends from the Bustamante needle, we will only walk 10 minutes more to reach the foot of the trail. Once at the base of the route, we will equip ourselves and review the safety and progression instructions to begin the climb.

The climb is developed in 5 pitches of rope and 2 more for the blonde dihedral, the maximum difficulty is 6a/+ in the first part, being the dihedral V+ up to its summit. All the pitches are of excellent rock and pure enjoyment, because despite its imposing view from the base, the route never exceeds the difficulty of 6a+, here is a great work of the openers, finding the key to open a masterful route and that today is becoming a modern classic of the most repeated of all the peaks of Europe.

Once at the summit we will enjoy the spectacle offered by the views, after having a snack and some pictures, we will descend in a rappel and some easy climbing, and then walk down until we reach the path that leads to the Collado de la Canalona, from here we only have to descend by the normal path to the cable car. (Approximately 2 hours from the Summit).

The guide, once the reservation has been made, will inform the participant of the meeting time and place, which will depend on the timetable of the Fuente De cable car and the time of the year.
